Subtitling is one of the most difficult things to get right, and if you have ever watched a comedy movie where the subtitles give away the joke before it appears on the screen you will know what I am talking about.
Just like translating a story, the delivery is important, but when you translate subtitles you no longer have the luxury of time and space. Not only do you have to translate the words and meaning, you have to make sure they are short enough to fit on the screen and be digested by the viewer.
I have worked on many subtitling projects, from the America's Cup to Poker games, from baristas to cuisine, TV documentaries to movie trailers.
I can provide the subtitles in plain text, or in any of the standard file formats. I can customise the output to suit your specific needs.
If you are interested in working together, do not hesitate to email me at aya@ayatranslates.com
My rates depend on the nature of each project, however they are typically in the ballpark of about: 10 yen/word for English to Japanese and 20 yen/character for Japanese to English.
